Do you research before you post these kinds of things Odi? Because it seems like you just know a whole crapton of really useless random facts lol. As for tentacles being the next logical step .... this is Japan. You were surprised?

This is why japanese porn is always so disipointing.

Tentacle porn is by no means a new thing.

I don't see how hentai would've come about through censorship when the hentai itself is also censored. They do just really love their comic books, they have graphics novels about damn near everything for every demographic imaginable. You'll see middle-aged businessmen and women on subways reading them. Seems more likely that they would've had hentai manga to begin with, considering the above image. I had a quick Wikipedia browse and couldn't see any answer to this kind of chicken/egg question, though.

I did find this snippet:

Quote:
The religious and social taboo against nudity has historically been weaker in Japan than in the West: "pillow books" detailing sexual acts were widely sold in the Edo era

I guess if Europe's pretty much always had erotic literature then why not drawings?

Ah, so that's where the name for James Bond, Octopussy came from...

It all makes sense now :boffin: I guess they had to cut that scene from the film

Dude...I'm a girl.

...and the Japanese have always had the most ridiculous ukiyo-e. Yoshitoshi came out with a whole series based on famous murders in (I think) the late 1800's. They're utterly vicious.

Uhh, did I say you were male? I was sure I assumed you were genderless until proven otherwise. Oh well, sorry.

Nah Kinto, I thought Gaz was getting me confuzzled since I so rarely flip back to the previous page to read the entirety of a thread when it starts to contain octopussy.

It's a good plan, and I'm sticking to it.

Bit more news on tax breaks... still quite a hurdle to go though.
So basically tax breaks would allow game companies more cream if they make any, do you think that would end up trickling down to the artists salary, or just make more jobs available? (Aware that this is quite a generalised question)

Canada's government actually seems to help studios startup - such as ubisoft ontario.

http://www.develop-online.net/news/33724/House-of-Lords-backs-UK-tax-breaks
Quote:
The UK’s struggling bid for game development tax relief was given a ray of hope today as the initiative was backed in a report by the House of Lords Communications Committee.

The committee’s report stated that it “recognised the claims of the videogame industry for support in the face of foreign government-subsidised competition, and recommend that the Government consider providing tax incentives for videogames production.”

Game industry body Tiga said that the announcement ties in with an increasing change of heart at Westminster.

“It is very encouraging that the cross-party, highly respected House of Lords Communications Committee has recommended that the Government should consider providing tax incentives for videogames production,” said the group’s CEO Richard Wilson.

“We know that the Department of Culture, Media and Sport’s priority is to introduce game tax relief,” he added.

Wilson and Tiga members had put the case for game development tax breaks to the Committee back in July last year.

Edit there was more...
Quote:
Tiga chairman Jason Kingsley – also the creative director at Rebellion Studios – said that the Lords’ recommendation “demonstrates that Tiga’s relentless campaign on behalf of the UK games industry is making an impact.”

The House of Lords – by convention - acts as the review chamber of Parliament. Bills put forward in the Commons will be heard (and often amended) in the Lords until a balance of ideas between both chambers is reached. Yet it is not tied to the executive branch of parliament – the Government – meaning it can only recommend ideas to put forward.
